Princess Ivory reading Dr. Seuss

In the recent months Princess Ivory has rapidly built a career as a reader in SL. When voice became mainstream in SL Princess was among those who most strongly opposed it, in part for reasons she detailed in her own blog, in part because she is naturally very shy.

In a bold move, however, Princess started to speak at the end of the year, and nobody has been able to silence her again so far! :)

Princess has entertained us with a number of different readings starting with Dylan Thomas' A Child's Christmas in Wales during the Holidays season, until these days when she is celebrating Dr. Seuss birthday dedicating the entire month of March to his work.

Princess has a wonderful voice for reading and listening to her is an experience that any person fond of storytelling should should have.

Princess reads at the MilkWood Stone Circle every Wednesday at 1 pm SLT. Podcasts of her readings are available at this page.

Come and enjoy ! :)

magical storytelling

like all Friday nights yesterday it was the time for Aianna's reading of the second volume of her Valley of the Ivory Swan. It is the more advanced of her currently running readings and it is the followup of the series of readings that started more than one year ago in Faeria. Since when Faeria has left the land in Huin, the readings take place in the Sanctuary of Adrilan in Alurel.

Some reading are more successful than others, with many people attending. Some other days are less successful, and like yesterday, almost nobody show up. I hate when that happens because I love that story and I don't want the reading to be canceled, and I am also sorry for Aianna who put a lot in these readings and it is not nice to see nobody attending.

But yesterday Aianna recovered pretty well. Since Mykyl and I were the only ones there, she remembered a night, about one year ago, when she made up a story for us as she was telling it. True storytelling of the highest level.

And she did so yesterday. We moved down from the Sanctuary to the Fairy Garden and, after a few minutes to get the inspiration, she started telling the most wonderful story. It was truly a fantastic telling, full of magic and sense of wonder. Aianna is simply amazing in these things and she gave us a great moment.

Thank you, Aianna :)

P.S. : Aianna Oh currently reads her novels at Milk Wood on Mondays at 2pm stl, in Alurel on Fridays at 5 pm slt and she reads her bedtimes stories (classical tales and fairytales from Andersen, Brothers Grimm, Kipling, Dr. Seuss and others) on Sundays at 5 pm slt at the Aurora Town Tiny Village

milk wood

As it may be know to my few readers, I love to attend to in-world literary events, and especially to live readings.

Poetry Reading at Milk Wood

I told before about the first reading of Aianna, that I consider the start of my serious dwelling in Second Life. Aianna has read in many in the past months: Faeria, Alurel, Winterfell ... and Milk Wood.

Poetry Reading at Milk Wood

Milk Wood is an extraordinary institution: thanks to the commitment of Harriet Gausman, the soul behind the Guild of UK writers, almost every day it is possible to find event of the highest quality and entertainment: readings, poetry, novels, discussions, reviews, trivia. Milk Wood is based in the Scotland sims, Scotland Plarmigan and Scotland Inchlonaig, where there are reading areas, residential areas a merchant village dedicated to writers, all in a beautiful natural landscape.

I started attending Aianna's readings and more and more I became fond of other writers I learned to know there, talented people like Cora Hawker (fantastic horror and thrillers), Huckleberry Hax (master of virtual worlds novels), and Morgue McMillan (lovely poet), just to mention those I listened to several times, and apologizing to those I am forgetting.

I spend now 2-3 times per week at Mild Wood, thanks also to their European-friendly schedule and it is always with great pleasure.

Places like Mild Wood show once again the magic that can be found in SL.

Be well my friends, until the next time :)

"afk" by Huckleberry Hax

My recently updated profile mentions my passion for in-world literary events.

There are a number of readings or storytelling events that I try to follow semi-regularly, at least those compatible with my being in Europe.

Of course I try to follow Aianna as much as I can, for both her flagship reading of the Valley of the Ivory Swan series and the newly added Bedtime Stories.

Another event I like to to follow are Cora Hawker's readings of her thriller/horror novels at the Guild of UK Writers.

Other events I try to follow, despite being rather late, are JJ Drinkwater's monthly Story Sessions at the Falling Anvil, in Caledon Tammranoch, and, since yesterday, the new Bards Gathering organized by Miss Serra in Winterfell.

But yesterday was special for Huckleberry Hax' reading of his novel "afk", organized by Harriet Gaussman's Guild of UK Writers (Thursdays 3 pm SLT at Milk Wood - Scotland Inchlonaig).

Huck usually reads at a time that becomes difficult for me to follow (it is my midnight), but I had been able to listen to portions of his other novel "the day is full of birds". He writes stories set in the virtual world and they are highly enjoyable. Despite that, attending only a couple of readings and being unable to follow the plot well, I had not appreciated the full of his skills, so far.

Yesterday it was different : Huck started reading the beginning of the new novel, about a private eye in SL, and it was a great experience and huge fun. It was so easy to identify in many moments of the story, which dramatizes experiences that are so common to everybody with a bit of experience in the virtual world.

The audience was packed and everybody looked and sounded enthusiastic after the event. People stayed long after it over to talk about it. It was a great evening !

Huck's writings are available to download as PDF on his pages and I strongly suggest everybody who likes SL and and good writing to give them a try.

Happy reading

W

P.S. : Huck is reading again today at 4 SLT at Windemere
