Literary Discussion at Book Island

Book Island is the reason I came in SL back in 2007. At the top of the popularity of Second Life they organized a book fair that made the news in mainstream press (I heard about it on Italian radio, and so I decided to see what SL was about). They repeated the fair in 2008 and it was another great event.

After that the owners got married in RL and had a baby so the the sim was not active for a while (even if never neglected).
Now there are many regular events again.

It is the first group I joined and the first place I set as SL Home.

Christmas Expo Featured Shop: Aphrodite

While exploring the Christmas Expo preview last week this couple of bears was one of the cutest things I saw.

I had a chat with Marina Ramer, the creator, and I paid a visit to the shop she owns to Jaylin Whitewood, Aphrodite.
The shop is filled with lovely seasonal merchandise, among which an absolutely lovely Christmas dining set

One of their set is also available at the auction area, it is very popular and it is definitely worth a visit and a bid.

Dining is one of the shop's features, but it is not the only one. The Christmas Trees corner is absolutely lovely , with several combinations and styles and gifts and cuddly bears.

the Grand Star, an Evva Viper's SSS Grand Galleon, is the second of the new ships commissioned to reinforce the Wild Fleet. Her role will be to provide the muscles and firepower that have been lacking since the damages sustained by the Battle Star.

The Grand Star will be the flagship of Division 2 of the High Seas Squadron and will be the flagship of the entire squadron as long as the Battle Star will be out of commission.

the Wild Fleet after the Battle

The Battle for the Isle of Skye left the Wild Fleet in quite a depleted state.

The battleship squadron, that made the bulk of the task force is almost completely out of service: while both the Star of Summer and the Ghost Star, even with different levels of damage, will be eventually back on duty, the Star of Winter will require months of drydock to be again fully operational, and it is not yet sure she will ever be.

Only the Star of Christmas, among the big ships, not being in Winterfell that day, is currently available. She was quickly recalled from her away duties and she is now stationed in Eventide, near the new dock. Even so the squadron is down to just two ships, and only the Star of Christmas is a capital ship, being the other the Starburts, an escort vessel that, even if not incapacitated, took its own damages during the battle.

The High Seas squadron has taken its beating too. The Battle Star, from which I directed the operations is completely dismasted, after ramming into the Vulgarian flagship during the final assault, and the Discovery Star is still missing after being wiped away by an enemy broadside. Despite rescue missions in Harbour, Libris and Undertow we have been unable to identify the position of any wreck, so her fate, as well as Baldr's, who was commanding the ship, is still unknown.

With these losses the first division of the squadron is all but operational, and will be so for some time.

Division 2 and Division 3 were not deployed, not being in Winterfell at the time of the battle, but with the Hunting Star supporting the operations of the special ops squadron near Bay City, only the Sailing Star is left to operate in home waters.

Division 3 was left untouched but with just a sloop and a schooner it is the division with the lightest firepower.

It is therefore necessary to accelerate the commissioning of new ships, both for present and future needs, since the battle has demonstrated that a major engagement can easily push the fleet to its limits.

Three the new ships have been ordered, whose name will be: Shining Star, Twilight Star and Grand Star. The last one will be a capital ship in the same firepower class of the Battle Star, in order to provide an alternative should the flagship of the High Seas squadron be incapacitated.

Report on the naval actions during the Battle of the Isle of Skye

Waiting for the detailed story that is coming in episodes from Lady Eva, here are some details on the navals actions during the battle for the isle of Skye, as seen from the deck of the Battle Star who was leading the Wild Fleet task force involved in the battle.

All hands got up early on Saturday morning. We knew the Vulgarian fleet was close and all the reports were pointing towards Saturday as the day of the clash.

The fleet was deployed NE of the Isle of Skye with all the water of Libris and Undertow to give us a good maneuverability. The most probable direction of approach of the Vulgarians was from the north, along the eastern coast of Harbour. If so we would be ready to welcome them.

The Battle Star, the Ghost Star, the Star Burst and the Discovery Star made the bulk of the task force. Later Miss Serra reinforced us with her Twilight Rose. The Star of Winter and the Star of Summer operated independently, away from the main force ready to intervene if necessary.

Lady Eva had her ground forces assembled in her castle and her batteries were ready to cover the sea below. Overall we felt rather ready.

Despite that it was a messy affair: the Vulgarian umbugged us! They fainted a descent along the eastern coast of Harbor, as we expected, and we moved to face them. However it was just a deception. While we got ready to intercept, the Vulgarian fleet came down the Harbour canal and took us in the rear of the formation.

The Star of Winter did what she could to delay the enemy actions but found herself under the fire of the entire enemy fleet. In minutes she was badly damaged and partially sunk.

Soon the rest of the fleet started to take hits while still maneuvering to be able to return fire.

Despite the surprise, our deployment still proved to be strategically superior: we were keeping the gate to open waters and the Vulgarians were constrained in the narrows, unable to fully exploit the their firepower else hit each other.

Lady Eva started to hammer the ships from her battlements, despite being in turn under the fire of a Vulgarian airship. We started to return fire as well. The exchanges were ferocious. Each ship on either side took damage and soon fire was visible on every deck.
The Ghost Star was hit badly and soon started to lean on one side.

The Vulgarians tried to force their way into the eastern waters but we were able to force them back. Now we had the advantage. Their only way out was to retreat and give way to our pursuit.

A consulate airship materialized to even the chances on the sky. The vulgarian airship had to back off and Lady Eva boarded the friendly airship to have herself dropped on the enemy flagship, while a boarding party down from the slopes of the isle approached the enemy ships aboard a gunboat. We decided to support this action and pierce deep into the enemy formation. The Battle Star moved to ram into the Vulgarian flagship, while the Discovery Star followed to support her. An enemy broadside wiped the Discovery Star from the sea. She disappeared from the fight, missing and probably sunk. Captain Baldr is still missing. Despite the fire the Battle Star was able to gain speed and she rammed hard into the side if the enemy flagship, loosing all her masts because of the violence of the impact.

By now all the ships were constrained into a small space and the boarding parties were able to jump from deck to deck as one single battlefield.

It was all swords and musketfire by then. The fight was long and bloody, but by now it was clear that the battle was won. Despite our losses the Vulgarian fleet was shattered and no longer able to operate as a fighting unit. We had the control of the deck of their flagship and the other ships were either sunk or on fire.

The few ships still seaworthy tried to brake free and gain once again the northern waters to disengage. The Star of Summer and the Star Burst pursued them, sinking one before having to give up because of the heavy damages on the Star of Summer.

It was over. The butcher's tally was heavy but we had won. The Vulgarian were no longer a serious threat.

I have started this blog three years ago making use of the name of my Second Life avatar. It is a blog related to my Second Life and directed to secondlifers. I do not think anybody who is not in SL would care about these pages, and almost nobody in SL knows me under any name but Wildstar Beaumont.

In the meanwhile I have been a happy user of GMail, gTalk, Buzz, Google friend connect, Picasa Web Album and other Google services. I have always considered myself a Google fanboy.

A few weeks ago, thanks to the kindness of two fellow secondlifers, who sent me an invitation at the same time, I was able to join Google+, just days after it started.

I did not particularly feel the need of a new social tool, but I was happy to join and interconnect with all the other secondlifers there.

After one week some Google person decided that my profile violated the guidelines, since it was not real and my profile was suspended. Since then I have been unable to join other blogs, to press the like button anyware on the web, to reply to posts and post my own images on Buzz, as I was used to do, to show or modify my icon in gTalk, etc. It was not just Google+. All my experience in the Google ecosystem was marred. Now I am afraid that all the photos that I uploaded into Picasa Web Albums might go soon, since the deep integration between the services.

This because Google decided that Wildstar was not real enough for them. Yet I fail to see how those 2-3 people who read this blog or those (a few more) who like my SL photos would recognize me under any other name. I do have a RL account, I interconnect with people who know the RL me. A few of them are even secondlifers with whom I have exchanged RL information (my and their decision). But even with them it is another kind of experience and relationship. My SL self is Wildstar Beaumont and this is the identity a lot of people are used to interact with me for everything related to Second Life.

Yet Google decided that I was not real, I was fake, I was a potential spammer. I was not worth to network with other human beings. They decided to spoil my internet experience, even in those part I was using with satisfaction before Google+ ...

This is the last weekend of the RFL of SL Season before the Relay proper, and the Aether Chronanauts will hold tonight their final formal event of the season : The Time Travellers Ball.

The Aether Chrononauts Relay For Life Team request the pleasure of your company for the Time Traveller's Ball on Saturday, the ninth of July, from one pm until three pm Second Life time. Mr Otenth Paderborn will be taking us on a musical journey through the ages. Smart or formal attire from any age is encouraged.

Swashbucklers for Life

Swashbucklers for Life is a collaboration between various pirate/privateer/buccaneer groups throughout the Steamlands in support of Relay for Life; originally conceived as a relatively simple gathering of three different pirate groups, SFL has quickly grown into a day-long event involving six groups and spanning seven different sims. Get buccaneered up and get ready for a day of fun on the seas! Swashbuckling attire is encouraged, but optional. Come for as much of the day as you can (or as much as you dare...) and show your support for Relay for Life in the Steamlands! There will be dancing, drinking, playing, racing, fighting, and modeling. There will be comely wenches and dashing buccaneers. There will be rum. There will be waffles. What more could you possibly ask for?

SFL Schedule for Saturday, June 25th, 2011 (all times listed are SLT):

08 a.m. - 10 a.m.: SFL Opening Party / Waffle Battle - the Black Forest Pirates

Caledon Glengarry

The Black Forest Pirates of Caledon will kick off the Swashbucklers for Life event with an opening dance, followed by the event you know you've all been waiting for: Waffles From the Deep - A Sea Battle of Epicly Tiny Proportions.

10 a.m. - 12 p.m.: British Bulldogs Ironclad Battle - the Scoundrel Fleet

Armada Cutwater

British Bulldogs is a British playground game similar to Tag and Red Rover; in this version, the Bulldogs are ironclad vessels which  will be doing their best to ram the other ships as they attempt to sail safely across the playing area. The last player left is the  winner, and will then become the first Bulldog for the next game.

12 p.m. - 02 p.m.: Tall Ship Race - the Winterfell Privateers

Winterfell Absinthe

A tour through most of the Winterfell water sims, to be followed by a Tall Ship race; all sailing ships propelled by SL winds are eligible,  but keep in mind that not all ships will fit under the Nepenthe gate. Entry fee of 500L$ to be paid at the RFL kiosk located in the East  Tower of the Nepenthe gate on the day of the event; the winner of the event will receive a Trophy custom made by Mr. Marcel Ghostraven. This event will be streamed LIVE on Radio Riel!

02 p.m. - 04 p.m.: Free for All Tall Ship Sea Battle - the Antiquity Pirates

Antiquity Port Royal

Sail your tall ship to Antiquity Port Royal and join the Antiquity Pirates in battle for dominion over the seas! Rules to be supplied at the battle.

04 p.m. - 06 p.m.: Capture the Flag - the Crimson Pirates

06 p.m. - 08 p.m.: Walk the Plank Fashion Show - Swashbucklers for Life

Come out and watch some of the loveliest wenches and handsomest rogues in the Steamlands as they strut their stuff on the plank. See the latest in buccaneer fashion from some of the best designers in the steamlands, as these daring models are forced to walk the plank in shark-infested waters.

08 p.m. - 10 p.m.: the Buccaneers' Ball - the Black Moon Marauders

After a long day on the stormy seas, sail into port at Caledon Llyr and join us on the Morrigan for some rum and rowdiness at the  Buccaneer's Ball! If the ship (sim) is full, just head to the neighboring beach in Caledon Westmoreland and join in the drunken revelry.

the Aether Chrononauts RFL Team presents the Changhigh Trinity Sisters

I attended a show of the Changhigh Trinity Sisters for the first time two years ago at the Fantasy Fair 2009 and I was immediately hooked. I became a fan and I started to follow them as often as I could. At the Fantasy Faire of 2010 I bid hard to win a show of theirs at the fair auction.

Attending their fire show is an a amazing experience, as one is caught in a variety of colors and sounds.

The animations and the particle effects are designed and custom made for the show and they provide a unique experience

This year I am incredibly happy that the Changhigh Trinity Sisters have accepted to perform in a RFL fundrising event organized by the Aether Chrononauts and that will take place in the beautiful location of Cala Mondrago as part of the local Fire and Ice Festival.

It will be Saturday the 14th of May at 1 PM SLT

Storytelling is an old art, almost lost, that in Second Life has found a new renaissance.

Aianna is a veteran and a star of SL storytelling. Her debut in July 2007 filled almost two sims and since then she has told her stories in too many occasions to be counted. She has read original work, poetry, classical fairytales and also told stories made on the moment for the audience.

For this Relay for Life event Aianna will read from "The Warrior Princess" the first novel of her own fantasy series "The Valley of the Ivory Swan", the same featured on her successful debut, almost 4 years ago.

Miss Inish Karu, on behalf of the team of the Aether Chrononauts, the RFL team with representatives from many Steamlands Nations such as Antiquity, Cala Mondrago, New Toulouse, Seraph City, Winterfell and Zeppelinheim, has organized an auction of naval items at the Battle Dock of Antiquity Port Royal.

The auction will run all week until the times given, which are for the Friday finale with our live DJ Rylee Artful
